UPS Battery Replacement & Backup Power Modernization for Environmental Services Organization
Reliable APC Power Protection Upgrade for Critical Network and Communications Infrastructure
The Challenge: Aging UPS Systems and Increased Risk of Downtime
This environmental services organization was facing growing operational risks caused by aging and underperforming backup power systems. Existing CyberPower UPS units no longer provided sufficient runtime or reliability to support critical network and communications infrastructure during outages. As the organization expanded, these limitations created increased exposure to downtime, data loss, and service interruptions that could impact day-to-day operations.
The legacy UPS environment also presented management and efficiency challenges. Multiple smaller UPS systems required additional oversight while consuming more power and delivering inconsistent performance. The organization needed a more dependable and scalable backup power solution that could improve uptime, support future growth, and align with modern power management standards.
To address these concerns, the company partnered with Data Networks to complete a comprehensive UPS battery replacement and power infrastructure modernization project focused on improving resiliency and operational continuity.
The Solution: UPS Battery Replacement with APC Smart-UPS Deployment
Data Networks implemented a complete UPS battery replacement solution centered around the deployment of a new APC Smart-UPS 1500VA platform. The upgraded system was designed to provide stable and continuous backup power for critical network equipment, phone systems, and PoE-enabled devices during utility outages and power fluctuations.
The project began with a structured kickoff and planning process to establish communication procedures, deployment timelines, and project responsibilities between Data Networks and the client’s IT team. Engineers then identified all systems currently supported by the existing UPS infrastructure and coordinated a controlled shutdown sequence to ensure a smooth transition during installation.
During the maintenance window, Data Networks gracefully powered down all impacted systems before disconnecting and removing the outdated CyberPower UPS hardware from the rack environment. The legacy unit was safely prepared for disposal or recycling without disrupting surrounding infrastructure.
The new 2-RU APC Smart-UPS 1500VA system was then installed within the existing rack and connected to the facility’s dedicated electrical circuit. All critical network and communications equipment was migrated to the new UPS platform, ensuring reliable battery backup protection and improved runtime capacity.
Following installation, Data Networks restarted all previously shut down systems and verified proper operation across the environment. Engineers monitored the UPS during its initial operational period to validate performance, confirm stable power delivery, and ensure successful integration with the existing infrastructure.
The engagement also included documentation, OEM reference materials, and knowledge transfer sessions to help the client’s IT staff manage and monitor the new APC UPS environment effectively.
Ongoing Value: Improved Reliability, Efficiency, and Operational Continuity
Through this UPS battery replacement initiative, the organization now benefits from a modernized and more reliable backup power infrastructure capable of supporting uninterrupted operation of critical business systems.
Replacing outdated UPS hardware with a centralized APC Smart-UPS platform has improved operational efficiency, simplified management, and enhanced runtime performance during outages. The upgraded solution also reduces the risk of hardware damage and service interruptions caused by unstable power conditions.
Integrated into the organization’s existing Data Networks Managed IT Services framework, the new UPS environment provides stronger long-term supportability, improved energy efficiency, and a scalable foundation for future infrastructure growth. As a result, the organization now operates with a resilient backup power solution that enhances uptime, strengthens business continuity, and supports ongoing operational stability.
