Disaster Recovery Site VxRail Capacity Expansion

DR Expansion for University Health Center

Q4 2020

Due to COVID-driven increase in demand on their production Dell EMC VxRail hyper-converged infrastructure, Data Networks determined this university health center’s DR site required more capacity to support the desired service levels for their infrastructure and to prevent capacity contention if production workloads needed to fail over to the DR site. To increase the capacity of the VxRail infrastructure, without requiring the expansion of compute or VMware licensing, Data Networks recommended deploying 6 new drives (2 per node) and expanding the existing VMware vSAN volumes to the maximum size supported by the new drives. This solution was quickly designed and deployed to ensure the Health Center would not face any impacts of production downtime due to capacity restrictions of their existing infrastructure during the pandemic.
