Interactive Classroom Technology Solution for Hybrid Learning Environment

Integrated AV Systems, Wireless Collaboration, and Active Learning Technologies for University Classrooms

Q3 2023

The Challenge: Modernizing Classrooms for Interactive and Hybrid Instruction

This major Maryland university sought to transform several traditional classroom spaces into flexible, technology-enabled learning environments capable of supporting active learning, hybrid instruction, and collaborative engagement. The institution required advanced audiovisual systems that would allow instructors to seamlessly present content, engage students across multiple presentation surfaces, and support both in-person and remote participation.

The project involved modernizing three instructional spaces with integrated projection, audio, video distribution, wireless collaboration, and conferencing technologies. Each classroom needed to accommodate a wide range of teaching styles while remaining intuitive for faculty and scalable for future educational needs.

The university also faced logistical and coordination challenges, as the deployment required close collaboration between university construction personnel, AV specialists, and multiple installation teams. At the same time, the solution needed to be delivered efficiently within a tightly coordinated installation schedule while minimizing disruption to campus operations.

To support evolving instructional demands, the university required a comprehensive interactive classroom technology solution capable of creating engaging, flexible, and collaborative learning environments.

The Solution: Interactive Classroom Technology Solution with Integrated AV and Collaboration Systems

Data Networks, with support from subcontractor Gallery Digital Signage, delivered a fully integrated interactive classroom technology solution across the university’s three classroom environments.

The deployment combined advanced projection, collaboration, audio reinforcement, and video distribution technologies into unified learning spaces designed to support active instruction and hybrid learning experiences.

Across the three classrooms, the project included deployment of:

  • 20 Epson BrightLink interactive projectors
  • 12 Epson L210SW projectors
  • 12 Draper recessed projection screens
  • 10 ClearOne microphone arrays
  • 44 Crestron DM-NVX-D200 decoders
  • 12 Crestron DM-NVX-E30C encoders
  • 23 Crestron AirMedia wireless collaboration devices
  • 40 Crestron Saros ceiling speakers
  • 6 AVER TR530 PTZ cameras
  • 4 NETGEAR M4250 AV network switches
  • Multiple ClearOne Converge Pro audio DSP systems
  • Dedicated media computers for presentation and streaming workflows

The classrooms were designed with multiple dedicated projection surfaces and interactive displays that allowed instructors to dynamically present and share content throughout the room. Crestron AirMedia wireless collaboration technology enabled presenters to wirelessly connect devices and manage display configurations through centralized Crestron control systems.

Ceiling-mounted PTZ cameras provided support for lecture capture, remote learning, and conferencing capabilities, while integrated audio DSP systems and voice lift functionality improved speech intelligibility and classroom communication. Zoned audio control allowed instructors to manage segmented learning spaces and presentation environments efficiently.

Gallery Digital Signage assisted in the execution of the project, including installation coordination and deployment of recessed projection screen systems. Data Networks managed overall AV integration, system configuration, calibration, programming, and testing to ensure all classroom technologies operated as a unified platform.

The project also included end-user training for university representatives covering:

  • Conference functionality
  • Audio system controls
  • Video switching capabilities
  • Presentation workflows
  • Classroom AV system operation

The Outcome: Flexible Learning Spaces Built for Collaboration and Hybrid Education

Through this interactive classroom technology solution, the university successfully modernized its instructional spaces with advanced AV and collaboration technologies designed for today’s higher education environments.

Faculty now benefit from intuitive wireless presentation tools, interactive projection systems, integrated audio reinforcement, and flexible room configurations that support collaborative and hybrid teaching methods. The new environments improve student engagement while enabling seamless participation for both in-room and remote audiences.

The integrated AV systems also provide greater operational consistency and scalability across classrooms, simplifying technology management and creating a foundation for future instructional innovation.

By partnering with Gallery Digital Signage and coordinating closely with university stakeholders, Data Networks delivered a scalable, high-performance classroom technology environment that enhances collaboration, communication, and modern learning experiences.
