Ethernet Cabling Services for College Lab, Lounge, & Classroom Renovation
High-Performance CAT6a Ethernet Infrastructure for Modern Academic and Collaborative Spaces
The Challenge: Modernizing Network Connectivity for Renovated Learning Environments
This private Maryland college was renovating portions of a primary academic hall to create new lab, lounge, and classroom environments designed to support collaborative learning, instructional technology, and increased device connectivity. While the building’s existing wireless network and switching infrastructure remained in place, the legacy cabling serving the renovated spaces no longer met the bandwidth and performance requirements necessary for modern academic environments.
The college required professional ethernet cabling services capable of supporting high-speed connectivity, scalable endpoint expansion, and reliable network performance throughout the newly constructed areas. In addition to deploying new Category 6a infrastructure, the project also required the removal of outdated cabling while minimizing disruption to the surrounding campus operations.
To support these goals, the college needed an experienced structured cabling partner capable of delivering a fully tested and documented network cabling solution integrated with the existing campus network environment.
The Solution: Comprehensive Ethernet Cabling Services and CAT6a Infrastructure Deployment
Data Networks, working alongside its cabling subcontractor, Rightway Cable Solutions LLC, delivered comprehensive ethernet cabling services for the renovated areas within the academic hall. The project included the removal of existing cabling infrastructure and the installation of 140 new CAT6a cable runs serving 37 outlet locations across the new lab, lounge, and classroom spaces.
The deployment included:
- Thirty-one (31) quad-outlet locations
- Six (6) dual-outlet locations
- One (1) 48-port CAT6a patch panel
- CAT6a termination jacks
- J-hook cable pathway infrastructure
- Cable labeling and certification testing services
All cabling was installed to support high-speed Ethernet connectivity and integrated into the building’s existing IDF and switching infrastructure. Data Networks engineers connected the new cable runs to available ports on the existing Ethernet switches, ensuring seamless integration with the broader campus network.
As part of the implementation, every cable run was individually tested and validated to confirm network performance and reliability. Existing wireless access point cabling was also tested to verify continued wireless functionality throughout the upgraded environment. Upon project completion, the college received detailed documentation, including cable test results and updated data location prints for ongoing network management.
Ongoing Value: Scalable Network Infrastructure for Future Academic Technology Needs
Through this ethernet cabling services project, the college now benefits from a modern, high-performance network infrastructure designed to support evolving academic technologies and future growth within their primary lecture hall.
The upgraded CAT6a environment provides increased bandwidth capacity, improved reliability, and scalable connectivity for classrooms, collaborative learning areas, and instructional labs. By leveraging the existing switching infrastructure while modernizing the physical cabling plant, the college achieved a cost-effective network upgrade with minimal operational disruption.
The completed solution positions the renovated spaces to support future digital learning initiatives, expanded device adoption, and long-term campus technology modernization.
