Disaster Recovery Solution for VMware vSphere 8.0 Upgrade
Enhancing Business Continuity and Data Protection with RP4VM 6.01
Strengthening Disaster Recovery for Mission-Critical Educational Systems
This Maryland public school district needed to modernize its disaster recovery environment to support a new VMware vSphere 8.0 infrastructure while maintaining protection for critical educational and administrative systems. With increasing demands on IT services and a growing reliance on digital resources, the district required a reliable disaster recovery solution capable of minimizing downtime, protecting sensitive data, and ensuring continuity of operations during unexpected outages.
The district faced several challenges, including strict budgetary constraints, the need to maintain high availability for mission-critical workloads, compliance and security requirements, and the importance of minimizing operational disruptions during infrastructure upgrades. In addition, district IT personnel required training and knowledge transfer to effectively manage the upgraded environment and execute disaster recovery procedures with confidence.
To address these requirements, the district partnered with Data Networks to deploy an advanced disaster recovery solution built around Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines (RP4VM) version 6.01 and VMware vSphere 8.0 compatibility.
Disaster Recovery Solution Enhances Replication and Resiliency
At the core of the project was the deployment of RP4VM version 6.01 across both the production and disaster recovery environments. Data Networks assessed the existing VxRail infrastructure, validated software licensing, and implemented the upgraded platform to ensure seamless integration with VMware vSphere 8.0 while preserving operational continuity.

The new disaster recovery solution was designed to protect 30 virtual machines and 30 TB of critical production data through continuous replication to a remote disaster recovery site. Data Networks carefully configured and monitored replication processes to ensure data integrity and consistency while minimizing the impact on production operations.
To strengthen recovery capabilities further, Data Networks deployed and validated foundational infrastructure services within the disaster recovery environment, including DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory. These services were configured to assume operational responsibilities during a failover event, helping ensure critical systems could be restored quickly and efficiently.
The upgraded architecture provides enhanced resiliency through real-time data replication, improved failover readiness, and support for evolving business continuity requirements.
Validating Recovery Objectives and Preparing Staff for Success
A critical component of the engagement involved comprehensive testing and validation of the new disaster recovery solution. Data Networks performed end-to-end testing of replication processes, data accessibility, failover operations, and recovery workflows to ensure the environment met the district’s established Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).
Disaster recovery exercises provided district IT personnel with hands-on experience managing failover and recovery operations while validating that mission-critical services could be restored quickly during an outage. These exercises also confirmed the operational readiness of the disaster recovery site and provided confidence in the organization’s ability to respond to future disruptions.
To support ongoing management and administration, Data Networks delivered detailed documentation, including updated disaster recovery plans, configuration settings, replication procedures, and system diagrams. Knowledge transfer sessions equipped district staff with the skills needed to monitor replication activities, administer RP4VM, manage foundational services, and execute recovery procedures when required.
The completed disaster recovery solution delivered two upgraded VxRail clusters, protection for 30 virtual machines, and replication of 30 TB of critical data using RP4VM 6.01 integrated with VMware vSphere 8.0. By enhancing resiliency, validating recovery processes, and strengthening business continuity capabilities, Data Networks helped the district establish a scalable, future-ready platform that supports both current operational needs and future growth.
