Eliminating Dead Zones and Connectivity Challenges
This Maryland non-profit organization was experiencing persistent wireless connectivity issues throughout its headquarters facility. Employees and visitors frequently encountered Wi-Fi dead zones, intermittent connection drops, and inconsistent network performance that disrupted daily operations. Critical activities such as video conferencing, cloud application access, and collaboration sessions were often affected by unreliable wireless coverage, creating productivity challenges across multiple departments.
As the number of connected devices continued to grow, the existing network infrastructure struggled to deliver the capacity and performance required to support modern workplace demands. Congested wireless networks and aging infrastructure contributed to inconsistent user experiences, while limited network resiliency increased the risk of service interruptions.
To address these concerns, the non-profit partnered with Data Networks to implement a comprehensive wireless coverage improvement project designed to eliminate coverage gaps, increase network capacity, strengthen security, and create a scalable foundation for future growth.
Delivering Wireless Coverage Improvement with Wi-Fi 6 Technology
Data Networks began the engagement with a detailed assessment of the existing network environment, evaluating wireless coverage, infrastructure capacity, traffic patterns, and organizational requirements. The team developed a strategic design that combined upgraded wired infrastructure with a modern wireless architecture optimized for performance and reliability.

The centerpiece of the wireless coverage improvement initiative was the deployment of 10 Meraki MR36 Wi-Fi 6 access points strategically positioned throughout the facility. Using predictive wireless planning techniques, Data Networks identified optimal access point locations to eliminate dead zones and provide consistent signal coverage across all floors of the building.


The implementation of Wi-Fi 6 technology significantly increased wireless capacity and improved support for high-density environments. This enables staff, visitors, and connected devices to maintain reliable connections even during periods of peak network usage.
To support the upgraded wireless environment, Data Networks installed up to 48 new CAT6 cable runs and deployed OM3 multimode fiber connections between network closets and the main distribution frame. These improvements provided the high-speed backbone required to support modern wireless traffic demands while ensuring reliable connectivity throughout the facility.
The project also included the deployment of Meraki MS130 PoE switches, enabling centralized management and reliable power delivery to access points and other network-connected devices.

Strengthening Security, Performance, and Network Resiliency
Beyond the wireless enhancements, Data Networks implemented a Meraki MX85 security appliance to provide advanced network protection and centralized management capabilities. The solution includes firewall services, intrusion detection and prevention, secure VPN functionality, and cloud-based visibility through the Meraki Dashboard.

The cloud-managed platform allows administrators to monitor network health, troubleshoot issues, manage wireless performance, and enforce security policies from a centralized interface. This improved visibility helps reduce administrative overhead while providing greater insight into network operations.
To enhance resiliency, Data Networks replaced aging power protection equipment and installed three APC Smart-UPS 1500VA systems across the facility’s wiring closets. These systems provide backup power to critical networking equipment, helping maintain connectivity during power disturbances and protecting infrastructure investments.

Following deployment, Data Networks conducted comprehensive testing and validation of wireless performance, network connectivity, switching infrastructure, fiber connectivity, and security services. The project concluded with detailed as-built documentation, knowledge transfer sessions, and a formal project handoff.
The completed wireless coverage improvement project transformed the non-profit’s network environment by eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones, increasing network capacity, improving reliability, and strengthening security. The new infrastructure provides staff and visitors with a seamless connectivity experience while delivering the scalability and performance necessary to support future growth and evolving technology demands.
